National Organising Meeting of the Anti Household & Water Tax Campaign

The meeting will be held in the Teachers Club, Parnell Square, Dublin at 13:30 till around 16:30.

The €100 household charge announced by the government comes into effect on 1st January 2012.

It will be the first step in the governments plans to implement a fully fledged property and water tax by 2014 that could be around €1,200 according to one government economic advisor.

"This evening in the Carrickdale Hotel, Dundalk, a weekend long event begins entitled 'Domestic Water Meters for Ireland - Implications for Irish Consumers and Businesses'.

"The event is open to County Councillors and from the agenda [see below] it is clear that the intention is to arm councillors from the establishment parties with the propaganda in favour of water metering and hence water charges.

RTÉ: Fergus O'Dowd believes the rollout of water meters will create 1,800 jobs

Minister of State Fergus O'Dowd has said that an announcement by the Government was imminent in relation to the establishment of the NewERA project (Economic Recovery Authority).

Speaking on Raidió na Gaeltachta, he added that the project would create new jobs and improve infrastructure in the country, in particular in the area of water.

The authority will have three main areas of focus - broadband, energy and responsibility for a new Irish Water Authority.

No Meters But Real Conservation Measures

The announcement by the Fianna Fail/Green party Government that it wants to reintroduce water charges signals yet another attempt to hit ordinary people with a new stealth tax. Green Party Leader, John Gormley, says he wants to see €1 billion raised in a water tax. This could mean bills of between €500 and €1,000 for each household in the country!
